Carts left behind are not lost sales yet:
a recovery program built on real objections

Most stores lose more than half of filled carts, and recover almost none of them beyond a single discount email. We build a recovery program across the channels your shoppers actually use, matched to the reason they likely left.

Where the money leaks today

Shoppers fill a cart and leave for reasons that rarely show up in analytics: shipping cost more than expected, a size question went unanswered, a payment method was missing, or they simply got distracted and meant to come back. The default recovery tactic, a single email with a flat discount sent the next day, answers none of those reasons and instead teaches repeat shoppers to abandon on purpose and wait for the coupon.

Browse abandonment, a visitor who looked at a product page several times but never added to cart, is an even larger and more neglected pool, because most stores only trigger recovery messages off cart events and never follow up on clear buying intent that stopped one step earlier.

Timing compounds the problem. A reminder that arrives the next morning, after the shopper has already bought elsewhere or lost interest, misses the window when the decision was still warm. Catching that window without becoming the brand that messages too often is the actual skill here, not sending more messages.

What we do

We start by reading your checkout and browse data: where in the flow shoppers actually drop off, what your typical buying window looks like, and which channel your customers are already using, email, WhatsApp, SMS or a mix. From that we build a sequence that starts while intent is still warm and, where possible, addresses the likely blocker directly: a note on shipping cost, a size guide, a stock reminder, before it ever mentions a discount.

Discounts, when the sequence uses them, are tiered and capped to rules we agree with you in advance, the same discipline we apply across every automated recovery flow we build, so margin on shoppers who would have paid full price is protected. We add a browse abandonment flow for visitors who showed clear intent without adding to cart, since that pool is usually untouched and often converts well with a lighter touch than full cart recovery.

Every recovery attempt and its outcome, recovered, no response, unsubscribed, gets logged against the customer record, so the program improves from real outcomes instead of guesses about what should work.

What we need from you

Access to your store’s cart and checkout events (Shopify, WooCommerce or your own platform’s webhooks), your product catalogue, and your discount rules: how deep, how often, and for whom. If you already run a basic recovery email, send us the data on how it has performed so we build on what is working rather than starting blind.

How we measure

Recovery rate (carts recovered as a share of carts entering the sequence), revenue recovered, and cost per recovery, reported by channel and by message so you can see exactly which step in the sequence earns its place and which one is just noise. We also track unsubscribe and complaint rate, because a sequence that recovers carts while damaging the list’s long-term health is not actually a win.

Price and timeline

Option Price What it covers Timeline
Launch or audit from $700 Data audit, one to two channels, discount rules, outcome logging 1 to 2 weeks
Monthly management from $500 / month New message variants, browse abandonment, A/B tests, monthly reporting monthly, no lock-in
Full control, handover to your team from $1,800 Full build, documentation and platform training for your team 2 to 3 weeks

This works well alongside post-purchase email sequences to extend the same measured approach past checkout, and cross-sell and upsell campaigns once recovery is stable. See the sales funnels and CRM service page for how this fits a full funnel build, and automate abandoned cart recovery for the fully agent-run version of this same idea. For a real store where checkout friction and discount discipline were part of a larger rebuild, see the D2C store Thailand audit and rebuild case study.

FAQ

How much does an abandoned cart recovery program cost?

From $700 for one store, one or two channels, and discount rules built with you. Programs covering browse abandonment and multiple channels usually run $1,200 to $2,500.

How long before it is live?

1 to 2 weeks once we have access to your cart and checkout data and your typical buying window.

What budget do we need?

No ad spend is required beyond your messaging platform costs (email, WhatsApp, SMS), which scale with volume and are usually modest for this kind of flow.

What do we need from you?

Access to your store's cart and checkout events, your product catalogue, and your rules on discount depth and frequency so the sequence never oversteps them.

How do you report on performance?

Recovery rate, revenue recovered and cost per recovery, broken down by channel and by message in the sequence, so you can see which step is actually converting.
