Voice & Calls

Two languages, one call,
translated as it happens

Finding a human interpreter on short notice for an incoming call is slow and expensive, and most calls that need one are not planned in advance. We build an agent that sits on the call and translates between a staff member and a caller live, in the languages your business actually deals with.

The process today

A call comes in from a customer who does not share a language with available staff, and the usual options are a slow search for a bilingual colleague, a paid interpreter service that takes time to connect, or simply struggling through with a translation app held up to a phone, none of which work well for a call that needs to happen right now.

Even when an interpreter is available, the call takes longer and feels less natural with a third voice relaying everything, and the cost of keeping an interpreter on retainer for calls that may or may not come in is hard to justify for anything less than high call volume.

The gap costs more than the delay of finding an interpreter; some calls simply never happen because nobody is available on short notice, and a customer or applicant who cannot be understood in the moment is often lost entirely rather than scheduled for a better-staffed call later.

What the agent does

The agent joins the call and translates each side’s speech into the other person’s language in close to real time, using a natural-sounding voice rather than a flat text-to-speech read-out, so the conversation keeps something close to its normal rhythm instead of feeling like a formal relay.

A transcript is kept in both languages for the record, and for calls flagged as higher stakes, legal, medical, anything with real consequences riding on precise wording, the setup defaults to connecting a human interpreter instead, with the agent available only as a fallback if no interpreter is reachable in time.

Because both sides hear a natural voice rather than a flat machine read-out, the conversation keeps enough of its normal rhythm that neither side has to consciously slow down or over-simplify what they are saying, which keeps the exchange closer to how an unassisted call would feel.

Call volume by language pair, tracked over time, helps a business see where demand for a given language is growing, which can inform a decision to hire a bilingual staff member directly rather than relying on the agent indefinitely for a language pair that has become a significant share of calls.

What stays with humans

Any call where the stakes of a mistranslation are high, legal proceedings, medical details, significant financial terms, defaults to a human interpreter by design. The language pairs supported and the fallback rules are set by your team based on where the real risk lies. Switching to a human interpreter at any point, for either side, is always available on request, and defaults on for the call categories your team flags as high stakes.

Guards

Every translated call keeps a transcript in both languages, so any disagreement about what was actually said can be checked against the record. The translation quality is tested against real business conversations in your language pairs before launch, not just generic phrases. The bilingual transcript is retained under the same rules as any other call recording, so a disputed translation can be reviewed against the original wording on both sides. Either party can request the call be paused to bring in a human interpreter at any point, without losing the conversation so far.

FAQ

How much does live call translation cost?

From $1,000 for the language pairs your business needs most, live in 7 to 14 days.

How accurate is it compared to a human interpreter?

Strong for everyday business conversation; for legal, medical or other high-stakes calls we recommend keeping a human interpreter as the default and the agent as backup.

Does it work on any phone call?

It needs to sit in the call path, either through your existing phone system or a conferencing bridge; we confirm compatibility with your setup before quoting.

Can it handle more than two languages on one call?

Typically it is built for one language pair per call; multi-party calls across several languages are possible but add complexity and cost, discussed case by case.

Is the conversation recorded or kept private?

A transcript in both languages is kept in your own system for compliance and quality review; we do not hold a separate copy outside what you authorize.
