A field app that still works
where there is no signal at all
Field apps fail in the one place they most need to work: no signal. We build offline-first from the start, with every action queued and synced once a connection returns, the same discipline behind a GIS app that kept 1.94 million records usable with no connection at all.
What it is and who needs it
An internal field-staff app lets technicians, inspectors, delivery staff or sales reps fill forms, capture photos and log GPS location while working somewhere a reliable connection is not guaranteed, with every action syncing correctly once signal returns. It is for a business with people working outside an office, construction, utilities, logistics, field sales, where the current process is paper, a messy spreadsheet, or a generic form tool that breaks the moment someone loses signal mid-shift.
The entire value of this product lives in the offline behavior. A field app that works fine in the office and fails in the field has failed at its actual job.
What is inside
Forms and checklists are offline-first by architecture, not by a fallback mode bolted on: every submission queues locally and syncs automatically the moment a connection returns, with no silent data loss if a device is offline for hours. Photo and document capture ties directly to a job or site record, and GPS logging gives location-verified check-ins so a completed job claim is backed by actual location data, not just a tap on a button.
Assignment and routing give a dispatcher or manager a real view into who is where and what is assigned, and the app integrates with your existing ERP, CRM or back office rather than becoming a second system someone has to reconcile manually. Role-based access keeps staff seeing only what their role needs, and the admin dashboard tracks job status and completion rates across the whole field team.
We also build in the operational detail that determines whether field staff actually trust the app day to day: a low-battery mode that reduces GPS polling frequency so a long shift does not kill a phone before the job is done, a manual override for the rare case where a form needs a correction after submission, logged rather than silently edited, and a shift or route summary a worker can see at a glance without digging through a long job list. For teams that rotate staff across different sites, assignment history stays attached to the site record, not just the individual worker, so institutional knowledge about a location does not disappear when someone changes roles.
How we build it
- Map the current field process in detail. What forms exist today, what gets photographed, how jobs get assigned, before designing anything new.
- Build the offline sync layer first. This is the hardest part and the one that cannot be retrofitted; it gets built and stress-tested before the UI.
- Connect to your existing back office. Integration, not a parallel system staff have to double-enter data into.
- Add location verification where it matters. GPS-backed check-ins for jobs where that verification has real value.
- Launch with a dispatcher view. Visibility into field status from day one, not reconstructed later from scattered reports.

What you own at the end
Form, photo and GPS data in your own database under your own infrastructure, integrated with your existing back office rather than replacing it, and the app under your own developer accounts, documented so your IT team can extend it without us.

FAQ
How much does an internal field-staff app cost?
From $6,000 for offline-first forms, photo capture and GPS logging with basic assignment. Integration with an existing ERP or CRM and a dispatcher routing view typically add $3,000 to $6,000.
How long does it take?
6 to 10 weeks once your current field process (what forms staff fill out, what gets photographed, how jobs get assigned) is clear. ERP or CRM integration can add 1 to 3 weeks depending on what that system exposes.
What happens if a staff member is offline for hours?
Every action, a form submission, a photo, a GPS check-in, queues locally and syncs automatically once a connection returns, with no data loss. This is the core engineering requirement of the product, not an edge case handled as an afterthought.
Who owns the field data and the app?
You. Forms, photos, GPS logs and job data live in your own database under your own infrastructure, and the app ships under your own accounts, integrated with your existing back office rather than replacing it.
Can this connect to our existing ERP or CRM?
Often, yes. We have rebuilt a factory ERP from a lost cloud account into a self-hosted system and migrated live data between servers with zero loss, so connecting a new field app to an existing back office is work we do carefully and have done before.
